Birg station is the final destination: skiing without long queues
On Sunday, 13 October 2024, the cable car between Birg and Schilthorn will run for the last time. It will then have to make way for the new cable car. For this reason, the Schilthorn will not be accessible for five months, Birg will be the final destination.
However, after the opening of the new aerial cableways between Stechelberg and Birg in mid-December, the transport capacity at the Stechelberg, Mürren and Birg will be more than doubled.
Press release
Start of winter sports operations on the Schilthorn
The new winter season on the Schilthorn can start early again this year: On Saturday, November 2, 2024, the Riggli chairlift and the associated slope in Engetal will open. Day tickets are available at a reduced price. Thanks to the expansion of the Winteregg chairlift and the new construction of the aerial cableways between Stechelberg and Birg, more transport capacity and fewer waiting times can be expected next winter.
Construction situation SCHILTHORNBAHN 20XX
The overall project includes direct connection between Stechelberg and Mürren, the replacement of the cable cars on the Mürren-Birg and Birg-Schilthorn routes and the reconstruction of all the stations. Construction work is currently taking place at all stations and restrictions and noise emissions must be increasingly expected. For safety reasons, the Thrill Walk at the Birg station is temporarily closed or only partially accessible. The Birg and Schilthorn route and the summit building with the 360° restaurant Piz Gloria are closed until mid-March 2025 due to the construction of the new cable car.
