The one-and-a-half-year renovation work on the Schilthorn – Piz Gloria summit building was completed in 2016. The landmark building was completed in the spring of 1968 for the filming of the James Bond movie "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" and opened in autumn 1968. The first renovation took place around 20 years later.

Since then, both visitor needs and structural and energy requirements have changed, making a comprehensive refurbishment necessary. In four phases, the summit building underwent optimisations in terms of energy efficiency and construction. This involved strengthening the insulation of the building shell, reducing water and energy consumption and installing heat recovery systems.

Transportation improvements were also made. The building's rooms and spaces are now multifunctional, lighter and more spacious. The large arrival lobby has a direct exit to the ski slopes and the toilet facilities were completely renewed.

Some CHF 9 million were invested in the overall renovation work, which was carried out mostly by regional firms.
