Entire electricity supply from hydropower
Schilthorn Cableway draws 100 percent of its electricity from hydropower generated in the Lauterbrunnen Valley via the local energy supplier, the Lauterbrunnen electricity plant. Topography provides ideal conditions – the 72 waterfalls that feed into this glacier-formed U-shape valley and the Lütschine river give an impressive demonstration of the power of water. Large generators in the power plant convert the immense kinetic energy of the water into electricity.
